Self-assembly of L-glutamate based aromatic dendrons through the air/water interface: morphology, photodimerization and supramolecular chirality.

A series of dendrimers containing focal aromatic rings, ranged from phenyl, naphthyl, anthryl to pyrenyl, and the l-glutamate peripheral groups were designed and their self-assembly through the air/water interface was investigated. It has been found that although these dendrimers have no long alkyl chains, some of the dendrimers could form stable monolayers at the air/water interface due to an ...

Theoretical insight of substituent effect in para substituted Fe(CO)4–pyridine complexes

Abstract: Systematic studies on the substituent effect in para substituted Fe(CO)4–pyridine complexes have been studied on the basis of DFT quantum-chemical calculations. The following substituents were taken into consideration: NO2, CN, CHO, F, H, CH3, and OH. Additionally, the Fe–N and Fe–C bonds were characterized on the basis of Atoms in Molecules topological analysis of electron density. I...

Amino Acid Sequence in Constitutionally Isomeric Tetrapeptide Amphiphiles Dictates Architecture of One-Dimensional Nanostructures

The switching of two adjacent amino acids can lead to differences in how proteins fold thus affecting their function. This effect has not been extensively explored in synthetic peptides in the context of supramolecular self-assembly. Toward this end, we report here the use of isomeric peptide amphiphiles as molecular building blocks to create one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures. We show that fo...

Chirality effects at each amino acid position on tripeptide self-assembly into hydrogel biomaterials.

Hydrogels formed by ultrashort peptides are emerging as cost-effective materials for cell culture. However, L-peptides are labile to proteases, while their D-isomers are thought to not support cell growth as well. In contrast, the self-assembly behaviour and biological performance of heterochiral peptides (i.e., made of both d and l amino acids) are largely unknown. In this study, we evaluate t...
